Serbian lawyers will start work today after being on strike since September in a row with the government over taxes and the role of notaries. The decision to end the strike, which has caused upheaval in the courts, came after the Government agreed to concessions on the Law on Notary Public Lawyers in the Balkan country had boycotted most court proceedings, with over 100,000 court hearings postponed and delays to 320 trials of defendents held on detention.The President of the Bar Association of Serbia Dragoljub Djordjevic (AKS) said he hoped that the authorities had recognised the importance of the practice of law.
