Two lawyers hired to help smooth over staff disputes at FIFA

FIFA is hoping that two specialist labour lawyers might be able to help mediate conflicts with staff as the world football governing agency enters a period of seismic change.

The Zurich-based organisation has recruited lawyers Nirmala Dias and Andreas Blattmann to help mediate internal conflicts and concerns amid an ongoing purge of top management figures from the scandal-ridden body. Dr Blattmann advises and represents national and international clients in complex international and state court litigation as well and arbitration and administrative proceedings. Meanwhile, Ms Dias’ wide practice includes advice on litigation, labour law, public labour law, tenancy law, work contract law, insurance law and mediation. A spokesperson for FIFA said that the lawyers have been asked to ‘work with employees of FIFA to explore and assist them in determining options to help resolve conflicts, problematic issues or concerns’, as well as to ‘bring systemic concerns to the attention of the organisation for resolution.’
